Role: Impact Producer & Creative Director

On the Morning You Wake

2022, 2023

On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World) uses innovative documentary storytelling and virtual production techniques to viscerally recreate the lived experiences of people who, for 38 minutes, had to react and make impossible decisions in the face of nuclear violence.

The project is at the center of a long-term impact campaign that aims to inspire people around the world to take action to shape the future of nuclear weapons policy, and provides a number of pathways for people to get involved and work together towards the abolition of nuclear weapons.

Work

As Impact Producer & Creative Director, I was tasked with bringing this VR documentary to life via immersive activations and exhibitions across the globe including Times Square (New York), Nobel Peace Center (Norway), ACMI (Australia), and the Museum of Moving Image (New York).

  • In partnership with Times Square Arts Alliance and The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, On the Morning You Wake was featured in New York City’s Times Square. The activation consisted of two parts: Times Square Public Installation & Times Square VR Screening. Estimated Reach: 300,000

  • In partnership with the Nobel Peace Center, On the Morning You Wake screened in Oslo, Norway to the international and local visitors to the Nobel Peace Center. In conjunction to public screenings, there were also dedicated screenings for over 45 high school field trips. Estimated Reach: over 500 students and teachers; over 200 members of the public

  • In partnership with Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI), Games for Change (G4C) brings the first United States museum exhibition of the virtual reality (VR) documentary, On the Morning You Wake (to the End of the World).

On the Morning You Wake to Nuclear Threat: Exploring Social Impact through Virtual Reality offers the public an opportunity to view the award-winning VR experience while also providing insight into the film's creative process, production workflows, and worldwide impact.

This captivating documentary, created by Archer’s Mark and Atlas V, immerses audiences in the first-hand experience of citizens in Hawai’i to make clear the fundamental injustice of a world where nuclear weapons exist. It exemplifies a human-centered approach to discussing the timely topic of nuclear weapons threats through virtual reality storytelling.

Since its global premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022, On the Morning You Wake has inspired audiences worldwide to take action to shape the future of nuclear weapons policy and get involved in the global nuclear abolition movement.

By seamlessly integrating documentary storytelling with cutting-edge production techniques and a large-scale public education and impact campaign, On the Morning You Wake demonstrates how emerging technology amplifies the power of storytelling to drive social change.

This limited-time exhibit was available with a general admission ticket to MOMI. Audiences can experience the forty-five-minute virtual reality documentary for an additional fee.

"A master class in immersive storytelling... one of the most powerful experiences I’ve seen in VR."
